At Get Back Physiotherapy, we offer personalized pessary fitting services designed to help manage pelvic health issues such as pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence. A pessary is a non-invasive, customizable device that provides support to the pelvic organs, offering a solution for individuals seeking an alternative to surgery.
What is a Pessary?
A pessary is a flexible, medical-grade silicone device that is inserted into the vagina to help support the pelvic organs. It’s designed to relieve the discomfort caused by prolapse and reduce the symptoms of urinary incontinence. There are many different types and sizes of pessaries, and our physiotherapists will work with you to find the best fit based on your needs.
Who Can Benefit from Pessary Fitting?
Pessary fittings are ideal for individuals who:
- Are experiencing symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse (e.g., heaviness, pressure, bulging in the pelvic area).
- Have stress urinary incontinence or urinary leakage.
- Have previously sought other treatments, including pelvic floor physiotherapy, but are looking for further support.
- Want to manage their symptoms conservatively without opting for surgery.
Pessary fittings are not suitable for individuals who are pregnant.

The Fitting Process
- When you come in for your pessary fitting, you’ll start with a thorough consultation that includes a medical history review and a physical examination. Our physiotherapists will guide you through a selection of different pessary shapes and sizes to determine which one offers the best fit and comfort.
- During the fitting, we will teach you how to properly insert, remove, and clean your pessary. You’ll also learn what signs and symptoms to monitor for, ensuring you feel confident in managing the device at home.
- Your first fitting session will take approximately 90 minutes, and you will leave with your pessary on the same day.
Ongoing Care & Follow-Up
To ensure everything is working as it should, we recommend a follow-up appointment approximately one month after your fitting. This will give us a chance to check that the pessary is still providing the necessary support, and to ensure you’re comfortable with its use.
If you don’t have a pelvic floor physiotherapist, we suggest combining pessary use with pelvic floor rehabilitation to improve long-term management of pelvic health issues. Your physiotherapist will discuss ongoing treatment options during your follow-up.
Insurance & Coverage
Our pessary fitting service is provided by a licensed physiotherapist, and we can directly bill to your insurance if you have physiotherapy coverage. Some health benefit plans may also cover the cost of the pessary itself as a medical device. Please check with your insurance provider to confirm coverage details.
